Committees
The MPI Heartland Chapter is always seeking members as volunteers on numerous committees. Please forward your name and committee you are interested in to heartlandadmin@cox.net and the appropriate Board Member/Committee Chair will be in contact with you.
Sponsorships/Fundraising/Exhibitor Opportunities this committee will review the processes for obtaining sponsorships, meeting hosts, exhibit and advertising opportunities with our Chapter and develop a plan for an annual invitation to potential sponsors. This committee will research and exhibit at other hospitality industry trade shows (ISAE, NSAE, Kansas City Annual Meeting, PCMA, HSMAI, etc.) to showcase and promote MPI Heartland Chapter.
Communications Committee this committee will assess the communication needs of the chapter and PODs. Committee promotes chapter and POD meetings and events as well as member accomplishments through press releases to the appropriate media contacts.
Community Outreach Committee this committee would be responsible for placing all announcements about MPI Heartland Chapter members and events to various media. Chapter and POD meetings announcements should be sent to all Iowa and Nebraska print newspapers, including, the Des Moines Register, Business Publications, Juice and City View. Announcements should also be sent to larger publications throughout Iowa: Iowa City, Davenport, Dubuque, etc., and all Nebraska publications - Omaha, Lincoln, etc.
Announcements about any Heartland members accomplishments relating to the hospitality industry i.e., CMP, CMM certifications, other certifications, promotions, etc., may be sent to appropriate publications, as well as, MPI International for their newsletter
Programming Committee assist in venue ideas, topics, creative catering ideas, etc.
POD Leaders these individuals are responsible for working with the VP of Education to coordinate and implement POD meetings in their respective POD area. The roles of POD Leaders include:
Confirm presenter/topic and location for each POD meeting.
Write a promotional piece for the newsletter.
Provide CEU Credit Form to the attendees.
Obtain roster of attendees from Chapter Administrator and collect registration fees.
Purchase speaker gift certificate.
Display name badges at each meeting and gather at end.
Distribute Member Recruitment & Advertising Opportunity Flyers for newsletter and website.
Introduce guests and have members introduce themselves at the beginning of the meeting.
Introduce sponsor and provide a few minutes for them to promote themselves.
Write a recap for the newsletter.
Send checks & attendee list to VP of Finance and Chapter Administrator.
Meeting Registration Committee duties to center around the registration table at Chapter meetings. Assist in information dissemination and acquisition (walk-ins, first timers, guests)
Hospitality/Member Care this committee would be responsible for welcoming new members/first time attendees at POD, Chapter, Annual Meeting and Fall Summit.
Recruitment/Attendance Campaign this committee helps with Attendance/Recruitment Campaigns for Chapter, PODS, Annual Meeting and Fall Summit.
Social this committee would determine the scope, location, activity involved with the annual social and educational event.
Annual Chapter Meeting this committee would be involved in the determination of location, dates, content, speakers, marketing, food and beverage aspects as they relate the the chapter annual meeting.
Fall Summit this committee would be involved in the determination of location, dates, content, speakers, marketing, food and beverage aspects as they relate the the Fall Summit.
CMP/CMM work with prospective CMP's and CMM's to help them complete the application process. Assist with setting up study groups.
Job Bank this committee would make contact with all members of the chapter and inform them of the opportunity to post available positions and members seeking new employment. This job bank would be listed on the chapter website and include a list of available jobs and resumes of job seekers.
Nomination Committee (Past President Committee) this committee would solicit nominations for Board Members on a yearly basis.
ELIGIBILITY: Each board member shall be nominated from amongst the chapter membership (with the exception of those that are in a succession role i.e., President Elect, Past President). Any individual who has served on the Chapter Board of Directors is not eligible for the same position until three years have elapsed.
ELECTION: If no more than one nomination per position is received, the slate would be approved at the April Chapter Meeting. If more than one nomination is received for any one position, a ballot by email will be sent to all chapter members with the individual with the most votes fulfilling the Board role.
The following positions constitute the minimum requirement for chapter board structure:
President
President-Elect
Immediate Past President
VP Communications
VP Education
VP Finance
VP Membership
Any additional board (and committee) positions will be at the full discretion of the chapter.
